Reconstitution Best Practices

Recommended

  • Use bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) as solvent
  • Add solvent slowly down the side of the vial
  • Swirl gently to dissolve — never shake
  • Refrigerate reconstituted solution at 2-8°C
  • Use reconstituted solution within 28 days
  • Maintain sterile technique throughout
  • Use alcohol swabs on vial stoppers before drawing

Avoid

  • Using plain sterile water (no preservative for multi-use)
  • Directing solvent stream onto lyophilized powder
  • Shaking or agitating vigorously
  • Leaving reconstituted solution at room temperature
  • Freezing reconstituted solutions
  • Using contaminated or expired solvents
  • Re-using needles between vials
